Looking to design your new deck during your lunch break at work? There’s no better way to do it than in a SolidWorks weldment part file. The one critical thing you’ll need is a library of all the stock lumber profiles, so here it is:
Lumber Weldment Profile Library
Just download the ZIP file listed above and extract it into the directory you’ve specified for your weldment profiles (Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations > Weldment Profiles).
There’s some additional information stored in a property called ‘StockSize’. To take advantage of it, add a column to your cut list that’s linked to this new property. Make sure to remember to save the updated lumber cut list template for future use.

Hi,
It would be nice if you mentioned the Version of Solidworks that you used for this. I have an older version, it doesn’t work for me.
Thanks so much for the download; I’ve been looking for lumber profiles for a while. However, I was disappointed that it’s for 2011 as I am running 2010. Is there any way that you could save out the profiles for 2010 and repost?
See the newly added link above!
Wonderful! Thanks so much for adding the 2010 profiles. This is a boon to productivity.
On closer inspection, it seems that all the profiles that I’ve opened are named with wrong values. I would still like to say thanks for the effort.
We require some information on how to do a weldment between a circular tube and a rectangular section
Zim Zum, it is common in the lumber industry for actual sizes to be different from the named sizes (e.g. a 2×4 actually measure 1.5″x3.5″).
Raghunath Prasad, could you please give me more details on the geometry you’re trying to create? Maybe you could scan a hand sketch and email it to me? You can find my email @ http://scr.im/jtadic3dv. Thanks!
wow! thanks a lot! its gonna be very useful for me!
