SolidWorks Louisville User Group Meeting – June 21st, 2011

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

2011-0601 SLUG Logo

The next SolidWorks Louisville User Group meeting – known locally as “the SLUG” – has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 21st, 2011.  It will be held at the University of Louisville Henry Vogt Engineering Center.  The meeting details are below.  If you are located in the Louisville area and have not attended a SLUG meeting, I only have one question – why not?

The topic for this meeting is “How do YOU use SolidWorks?”.  Members of the local SolidWorks Community – Scott Calvert of Design Network, Norman Boulard of Boulard Designs and Bryan Ray of  Samtec, Inc. – will be presenting some of their personal workflow and habits.  As we all know, each of us have our own way of doing things in SolidWorks.  Seeing how other individuals use SolidWorks is a great way to pick up on tips, shortcuts and learn new tools for driving SolidWorks and improving our designs.

Macro Anyone?

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Last week at the Cincinnati User Group Meeting, an engineer from Oystar North America said that he downloaded a cool macro that would create multiple Isometric views.  I was able to find a site that has this macro plus others that you may find interesting.  The site is Lorono’s SolidWorks Resources

Always remember that when you are using a macro, be sure to test it out before using it in production.

NEOSWUG Meeting March 21st

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

If you’re intrigued by all that’s new in PhotoView 360 2011 and you want to learn everything there is to know about it, then RSVP to the next NorthEast Ohio SolidWorks User Group (NEOSWUG) meeting scheduled for March 21st.  I’ll personally walk you through the new interface and some pretty cool rendering tips and tricks.  There will also be a nice presentation given by my friend Tonia Lauer about Weldments/Sheet Metal.  Plus, it’s always a great time just socializing with other SolidWorks users while chowing down on plenty of free food!

September 21 – SWUGN technical summit in Cincinnati

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Back on March 8th, SolidWorks announced they will be holding SWUGN technical summits again. Some people in the crowd saw there was one scheduled to be in Cincinnati but noticed there were no details about the event. I see now, details are posted.

The event will take place on September 21st at the Sharonville Convention Center near I-275 and I-75.

This will be my third technical summit and I am looking forward to it, they really put on a good show. Read the SolidWorks blog to learn more about what goes on during a summit.

See you there.

Columbus SWUGN Technical Summit

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

I was going to start this entry with “you missed a great summit”, but few of you actually did miss it. Yesterday’s technical summit had a great turnout, over 100 people were there! It was a good show. I thought the facilities were a bit small, most of the sessions had people standing in the back of the room. Even the standing people felt it was worth it.

Richard Wand at SWUGN

Richard Wand

This pic is of Richard Wand giving his weldment presentation. He continually turned his head every time I tried to take his picture. Finally I decided to just take the picture anyway.

The presentations were obviously great opportunities to learn, I picked up a few little tricks -but I enjoyed the opportunity to finally meet Dave Bartholomew – Northeast Ohio SolidWorks User Group leader during lunch. He is one of those guys who everyone knows for the good that he does for the SolidWorks community and it was nice to finally put a face with the name.

For those of you who saw Randy’s and my presentation, we were trying to decide if we should present it at SolidWorks world. Since there weren’t any survey forms, what do you think?

SWUGN Technical Summit – Columbus

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

You know the best way to keep up with technology is to interface with others. You also know that SolidWorks World is one of the best places to do this. Regrettably, it is sometimes hard to get an entire week off…besides who wants to go to Southern California or Florida when you live so much closer to Columbus Ohio?

All is not lost. There still is time (though not much) to sign up for Tuesday’s SWUGN Technical Summit in Columbus. Randy Simmons and I will be presenting: “In and Out of a PDM World” – showing basic strategies for file management for PDM users and non-users alike.

Just a single day, nine other breakout sessions, plus they feed you lunch too. (You knew there would be free food involved, otherwise I’d stay home.)
