The last day of SOLIDWORKS World is always my favorite. Many things get “revealed” that day... Where the next SOLIDWORKS World will be held, the user voted “Top 10” enhancement list, and my favorite section where they preview what will HOPEFULLY be NEW in SOLIDWORKS 2018! I have to say “hopefully” here, because anything listed below could be pulled from the final release if it isn’t operating up to the high quality standards of SOLIDWORKS. Here are the items for 2018 that were revealed at SOLIDWORKS World this year! Sketch Productivity: Mirror in a 3D Sketch Use planes as symmetry reference (mirroring) in 2D & 3D sketches Pen sketching (with smoothing and conversion to lines and arcs) on Windows touch screen devices!!! Assembly Delighters: Welcome Screen that combines “File-New”, “Recent files”,...
In the latest version of our “How To Solve It” webinars (every Wed at 10am) I covered the topic of “Streamlining the Design & Manufacture of Structures & Frames Using SOLIDWORKS Weldments” The webinar covered building at welded structure with just a minimal “skeleton” sketch, how to manage the automated cutlist, and how to manage and customize the weldment profiles to fit your needs. I also took some time to show how weldments can be used to do many “other” kinds of things than just welded frames, such as woodworking projects! I showed examples of cabinet designs all the way to a full backyard deck design all done with SOLIDWORKS weldments functionality. Be sure to check out the recording of the webinar on our 3DVision Technologies YouTube channel:
Chamfers got quite a few enhancements in SOLIDWORKS 2017. Let’s take a look at how these new options will save you time and let you build better looking parts! OFFSET FACE CHAMFER (new type of chamfer) The new Offset Face chamfer option lets you define the chamfer by offsetting the faces adjacent to the edge(s) you select. SOILDWORKS is finding the “virtual intersection” of the offset faces, and then calculating the face normal from that point to each face and creates the chamfer. You can choose to have the two offsets be the same (symmetric) or different (asymmetric). This even works great when chamfering between non-planar faces as well. MULTI DISTANCE CHAMFER (new option) Like using the Multiple Radius Fillet command to put a bunch...
In this past weeks edition of 3DVision’s How To Solve It webinar series, I built off of Ryan Field's webinar on designing the front cowling of Santa's sleigh in traditional SOLIDWORKS surfacing, and showed how amazingly fast, easy, and FUN it is to build it in SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer! PLUS since I ended up with so much extra time on my hands I had to one up Ryan and go ahead and build a whole new entire sleigh. Check out the webinar recording on our YouTube channel and see first hand the design process of Santa's new sleigh. As always if you have any question or need further information, please reach out to us and we would be happy to discuss with...
